Habagat’s Hamog 50 L Review

I bought my Hamog 50 L in Habagat Recto for Php 3,060 as Ate Jamee (Ms. Tindera) gave me a 10% discount. The original price was Php.3,400 (pero parang lahat naman yata binibigyan niya ng diskwento. Hihi!) Thank you again Ate Jamee!

My first pack was bought from an Ukay-ukay store in Tagaytay City. It was cheap and good for a noob. My back hurts after every climb and I found it hard to distribute the weight so I started hating it. I used it for almost one year and a half. After climbing Mt. Tarak Ridge, I decided to buy a new adventure pack that I’ll be using for future escapades. One time, I borrowed Andre, my fellow climber’s pack, the Sigbin 50. Consequently, I realized the importance of a pack with an internal frame for support, protection and proper weight distribution. I was planning to buy Sigbin 50 or a Margaja at Habagat but when I’m at the store, I became interested with their Hamog 50 L. It also has an internal frame and it’s much alike with Sigbin 50 excluding the suspension, front pocket (and other bag parts I haven’t observed).

The size of Hamog 50 L is 22 x 32 x 76 cm. Fabric is Kodra and or Nylon Pack cloth. Suspension is fixed and padded. It is good for backpacking, long trips, weekend trips and semi-technical climbing. I’ve used it only twice, at the Ambangeg-Ambangeg Trail at Mt. Pulag and New Trail-Old Trail at Mt. Batulao. It was very comfortable at very steep trails like at the Rockies to the peak of Mt. Batulao. It can perfectly accommodate my earth pad, tent, foods, 3 sets of clothes, stove, 3 liters of water, etc. Hamog also automatically balances my body and I feel like it embraces me every time I wear it. It impeccably fits with my back, you just have to adjust the straps and belt. The top compartment and side pockets are good. I haven’t tried the hydration hole but it seem to be like other pack’s H2(hOles). The Shoulder Harness, Chest Strap / Sternum Strap, Hip Belt, Inner and Outer Pockets Configuration, Splash Cover and Spindrift Collar, handles and other straps is perfect in my opinion. A large plastic bag inside is suggested for waterproofing. I guess it’s the most affordable, original and useful 50 L locally made pack for a semi-pro mountaineer like me.

I am satisfied with my Hamog 50 L as of now and so far, I have no negative impression with it. I also suggest that if you guys plan to buy an outdoor equipments or clothing, please patronize our local products.

Sino ang Mga Dapat Multuhin Ngayong Undas?

All Saint's day at All Soul's Day na.

____________________________

Hindi talaga as in hindi promise!)
3. Mga Filipinong minamaliit ang Filipino music, films at ibang arts pati pagiging Filipino nila.
4. Radio operators na paulit-ulit na nagpapatugtog ng "Nobody nobody but you!" (clap! clap!)
5. Mga tamad mag-aral.
7. Mga hindi marunong gumalang sa patay. (respeto naman mga pre)

Genesis 1: 1-2:3
  • First day: God creates light ("Let there be light!")
  • Second day: God creates a firmament ("Let a firmament be...!") - to divide the waters above from the waters below. The firmament is named "heavens".
  • Third day: God commands the waters below to be gathered together in one place, and dry land to appear (the third command). "Earth" and "sea" are named. God commands the earth to bring forth grass, plants, and fruit-bearing trees (the fourth command).
  • Fourth day: God creates lights in the firmament (the fifth command) to separate light from darkness and to mark days, seasons and years. Two great lights are made (most likely the Sun and Moon, but not named), and the stars.
  • Fifth day: God commands the sea to "teem with living creatures", and birds to fly across the heavens (sixth command); He creates birds and sea creatures, and commands them to be fruitful and multiply.
  • Sixth day: God commands the land to bring forth living creatures (seventh command); He makes wild beasts, livestock and reptiles. He then creates Man and Woman in His "image" and "likeness" (eighth command). They are told to "be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it." Humans and animals are given plants to eat. The totality of creation is described by God as "very good."
  • Seventh day: God, having completed the heavens and the earth, rests from His work, and blesses and sanctifies the seventh day.

The Tragedy of Philippine Education

(Photo taken during a provincial youth consultation May 30, 2009)

(Privilege Speech of Kabataan Party-list Rep. Mong Palatino June 7, 2009)
reposted from www.tinig.com

Mr. Speaker, distinguished colleagues:

As I speak today, preparations and enrolment for the coming school year are already in progress. The Department of Education once again adopted a “business-as-usual” attitude in explaining preparations for the school opening. DepEd claims the government is prepared for the school opening but the dismal state of classrooms and facilities and the severe shortage of teachers in public elementary and high schools nationwide say otherwise.

Days from now, we expect the Commission on Higher Education to do the same routine of back-to-school lip service to cover up for its negligence and apparent gross failure to regulate unabated school fee hikes and its conspiracy with some school owners.

Mr. Speaker, I rise on behalf of fellow young Filipinos who are being robbed of their right to education and their future.

When classes open in June, many school-age children and youth will not be in school.

I am alarmed over the sharp decline in the preliminary enrolment figures for the current school year. This highlights the huge disparity between the increasing cost of education in the country and the financial capacity of Filipino families to send their children to school.

A study of the Department of Education shows that 96.77 percent of elementary school-age children go to school while 66.06 percent of high school-age teenagers go to secondary school.

But the same report reveals that for every 100 students who enroll in the 1st grade, 33 drop out before reaching Grade 5 and 31 out of 100 high school freshmen drop out before reaching their senior year. The trend for the past ten years show that for every 10 pupils who enroll in grade school, only 7 graduate.

Government statistics show that for the past years there was a steady increase in total school enrollment. True. But there were also an increasing proportion of elementary school-age children who remained out of school, based on the most recent Philippine assessment report on the Millennium Development Goals.

In school year 2005-2006, almost 65 percent of six-year old children did not begin their primary education on time. The cohort survival rate was placed at 76 percent in 2001 but it went down to 70 percent in 2006. The completion rate was 75 percent in 2001 but it also went down to 68 percent in the same period. The drop-out rate and repetition rate also deteriorated in the same report.

Students drop out because of poverty. While basic education is free, many poor families are unable to finance the auxiliary school needs of their children, which, according to our computation would cost around P15,000 to P20,000 per student.

4 Reasons Why We Should Oppose the Construction of San Mateo Landfill

(Greenpeace statement on the construction of the San Mateo landfill)
Greenpeace Southeast Asia Toxics Campaigner Beau Baconguis said:

1. Location. San Mateo is located within the Marikina Watershed Reservation and the larger Laguna Lake Water Basin. Any waste facility located within the municipality therefore poses serious pollution threats to the groundwater sources and surrounding river systems such as the Marikina River which feeds into Laguna Lake.

2. Establishing a sanitary landfill within the Marikina watershed will severely compromise the water quality of surrounding water sources and Laguna Lake as well as the health of communities that depend on them. Even so-called 'sanitary landfills' create toxic leachates which escape into the environment and contaminate air, soil and water.

3. "The San Mateo landfill clearly flouts Presidential Proclamation No. 2146 which declares watershed reserves as environmentally critical areas, as well as section 40e of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Law (Republic Act 9003) which states that the location of a landfill must not 'detrimentally affect environmentally sensitive resources such as aquifer, groundwater reservoir or watershed area'.

4. "Greenpeace is therefore calling for an immediate stop to the construction of the San Mateo waste facility as an urgent and much needed step to protect the country's dwindling freshwater resources. What is needed is for waste reduction, segregation at source and recycling, as mandated in the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, to be seriously implemented in order to address the waste issue and the need for landfills eliminated."

Last year pa ko tinitext ni Carlo (a friend of mine na greenpeace member) about this. ?!? P!@#$% mga b@#$!!! Kainin nyo sarili nyong basura...d!@#$%!!!! Mga b@su$%^& u$%^&!

petition for the workers of kowloon

INSTRUCTIONS: Please read the petition first before signing INSTRUCTIONS:/ Please sign by writing your NAME/SCHOOL/PLACE OF WORK/WEBSITE[if any]/ORGANIZATION & Position[if any]) INSTRUCTIONS: Whenever the signatures reach to a hundred (ex. 100, 200, 300 and so forth), please forward to solidarity125.up.diliman@gmail.com

INSTRUCTIONS: For more information, please email us at solidarity125.up.diliman@gmail.com

We, the undersigned, support the ongoing strike of the workers of the Kowloon Restaurant in West Avenue, Quezon City. We support the strike as a legitimate way for the workers to defend their rights, in the face of a Restaurant Management that has violated minimum wage laws, and a National Labor Relations Commission that does not base its decisions on the Law it is supposed to uphold. We support the workers in their call for the Management to follow minimum wage laws. As of present, the minimum wage for workers in the National Capital Region is at P382. Yet, before the workers held picket-protests last June 20-21, the 2 most recent wage hikes (amounting to P82) were not being implemented by the Management. We support the workers in their call for the National Labor Relations Commission to reverse its decision calling the picket-protests an “illegal strike”. The Labor Code clearly states that a strike is a “disruption of operations”. Yet, the pickets were held outside the workers’ work hours, and away from the entrances of the Restaurant. This decision is the supposed legal basis for firing all 73 workers who are members of their union. We support the workers in calling for the reinstatement all 73 of them who were fired for simply exercising their rights to free speech and peaceful assembly, rights that are enshrined in our Constitution. We call on the Department of Labor and Employment, and other concerned Government agencies, to investigate and take action on the following: the Management’s violation of the minimum wage (including paying all its contractual employees a minimum daily wage of P250), the unjust decision of the NLRC, the illegal termination of the 73 workers, and the presence of policemen that violate the Labor Code’s banning of policemen and military within 50 meters of any picket line. MOST IMPORTANTLY, we urge all our fellow Filipinos to support the strike of the Kowloon workers by boycotting the Kowloon Restaurant until the Management reinstates the 73 workers, and pays them the Minimum Wage that is mandated by law. We urge everyone to sign this petition and forward it to everyone they know, until it reaches concerned authorities. Signed,

Tagaytay 5 - Case Dismissed

CALAMBA CITY, Philippines -- A Tagaytay regional trial court (RTC) on Thursday ordered the release of five farmers, known as the “Tagaytay 5,” who were arrested by the military and accused of being communist rebels out to launch a terror attack on Labor Day in 2006.

Bata man, mayroon na silang pakialam...

*I am still digesting the SONA of Pres. Gloria Arroyo.. ayoko munang magcomment about dun.

Peace Pilipinas!

ABSENCE OF ARIANNE

Where has Arianne been? I'm talking about one of the writers here in Gatsulat. This is my reply to those who emailed me and even sent me death notes begging me to bring back Arianne...as if I am hiding her. Please let me live in peace. This is the reason why she can't post recently:

April15 to May19, 2008 = Practicum at Hacienda Yulo (paglubog sa komunidad / mass integration)
Labor Day - Calamba, Laguna
Cultural Presentation of Alay Sining
Hapunan sa bahay sa Hacienda Yulo
Ang Palikuran na Iniyakan
I asked Arianne how she is right now and this is her reply:

Kudos Arianne!
